Anybody who follows games on a Mac will have noticed the increase in demand for more powerful computers, the following games ask for a minimum G4 600 Mhz (some as high as 800 Mhz !) CPU:

Bloodrayne, World War II Online, F1 Championship Season 2000, Nascar Racing 2002 Season, EverQuest etc. This seems to be for games that are written for OS X only and have high graphic demands. So what do you do about it ? Well all I can say is buy carefully, see if it will play in OS 9 because you can get away with using a less powerful machine. Try a demo of the game before spending the money(again in OS 9/OS X). On older games there is also the possibility of using 'classic'. I've run it very happily with Civilization II, Civilization Call to Power, Diablo, Star Wars bike Racing(?), Pillars of Garendal(should run on OS X but not on my dual screen, dual processor), Warcraft II(BNE), Risk II and more. In fact in some cases the game has run better than OS 9. There are also OS X patches for various games but I would not rely on them too much. For example Sin/Sin Gold only works for the first 5 levels, Diablo II makes the game go into slow motion when there is any action(horrible in classic as well), Heavy Metal FAKK 2 not tried it as it was hard enough getting it to work in OS 9 !

So does OS X make more demands on your computer, I would have to say yes it does but I think that the type of games coming out for Macs are going to be in a different league than before( ie 3D is here to stay) but you will have to pay for it !
